20/03/2020: BOOK REVIEW: Tracing Your Ancestors in Lunatic Asylums by Michelle Higgs

Tracing Your Ancestors In Lunatic Asylums: A Guide for Family Historians by Michells Higgs Published by Pen and Sword I have always been interested in lineage and the abstract parts of what can occur in your family’s history. This book was very interesting as it breaks down the different elements of ‘lunacy’ and the different reasons that could cause someone to end up in an asylum. It includes case studies throughout as well as a section at the back for sources to help you find your own family members. I would recommend this book if you just interested in lunatic asylums and wanted to find out more about them as well, as much of the book is based on that area.

If you do want to find out more about your own family but don’t know where to start the sources section of this book would be very beneficial. Overall I would recommend this book no matter what your initial interest in the book was as it was a very interesting read. Reviewed by Chloe Banham on behalf of
