03/02/2020: Opinion Blog: Help-ed!

Last week my weekly blog was about help, asking for it, giving it and receiving it, and the message at the end of the blog was clear. So, I’m going to extend that theme this week but in the past tense. The help I knew I needed but didn’t know I was asking for has…well…helped. If you didn’t read last weeks blog, (why not? – go read it now – this instant) was with regards to my university work. I’m a mature student, although some might say I’m an immature student. (Hehehe). I’m going through some age-related issues, but, guys, that doesn’t mean you need to stop reading now. In fact, I hope you don’t because it affects men too, albeit indirectly.

I’ve been experiencing a huge amount of brain fog. That is to say, cognitively, some days, I’m finding it difficult to retain words from a book and reuse them in an essay. This means study has become incredibly difficult and challenging, even without the subject matter. On the plus side, however, it won’t last forever plus the help I’ve been offered is in the shape of a strategy to use when studying. It’s not easy to use but I’m giving it my best. So that’s me. But I want to throw it over to you. Have you had any symptoms of that age-related episode yet and, aside from the stereotypical ones, what other ones have you experienced? Get in touch with me (privately if you prefer) so we can talk and help remove the stigma from this stage of life.
