20/01/2020: Opinion Blog: Torn

It's been a tricky few months one way or another. In the summer, I decided I needed to free up some time in order to focus on the final few months of university work. I made several cutbacks which included: . reducing the amount of voluntary/community work I did . pulling away from live radio (I was affiliated with 2 radio stations) . being more organised by scheduling blogs, book review posts and podcasts . adopting an entirely new information-gathering system I had discovered without realising it that over the years, I was spending more time focusing on unpaid work (voluntary work) and promoting other people rather than bringing in paid work and focusing on promoting my own work. Something had to give. .

But I felt torn. Where I used to enjoy giving my time away to help the community and the writing community, recently it felt more like people expected it of me. Sick of feeling like I was seen as the 'soft touch', the person who'd work for free, I decided enough was enough. In the third quarter of 2020, I'll be in a better position to take on new work, new clients and republish some of my older works too. My focus from now on is to myself. Promote me, my books, my career and all that my business encompasses. It does feel alien to focus only on me, and I am torn, but onwards I'll go. I've done a huge amount promoting other writers for free over the last 9 years via radio, blogs and podcasts - now I think it's time I called in some favours. Maybe it's my time to shine? If you feel like this means you and you'd like to reciprocate the freebie favours, please get in touch :O)
